These terms apply to the Distil Android app and mydistil.com, provided by Fabio Nadaia, based in Switzerland. Contact: mydistil.com@gmail.com. Please read them before using Distil.
Using Distil
Distil is a personal tool for recording thoughts, turning them into notes and editing those notes. It is intended for adults aged 18 and over. Subject to these terms, you may install and use the app on devices you are entitled to use. Third-party software and models remain subject to their own licences, which are identified in the app's Licences screen.
Use Distil lawfully. Only record people when you have the permissions required in your circumstances. Do not use the app to infringe another person's privacy or intellectual property rights, distribute malware, or interfere with the security of the app or website. These terms do not restrict rights that applicable law or open-source licences give you.
Your words belong to you
You retain your rights in the material you record, type or create. We do not claim ownership of your journal or require a licence to upload or use it on our servers. Local processing is part of the functionality you request. We cannot guarantee that AI-generated text is unique or eligible for copyright protection.
Review what the AI writes
Transcription and AI-generated notes can contain mistakes, omissions or wording that changes your intended meaning. Review and edit them before relying on or sharing them. Distil is a writing and organisation tool, not medical, mental-health, legal, financial or other professional advice, and not an emergency service.
You can flag a generated note using “Report this note” in the app, which prepares an email you choose whether to send. Details are in the privacy policy. Support is not an emergency response channel.
Your device and your copies
AI features need a compatible device, sufficient memory and storage, and an internet connection for model setup. Downloads may incur charges from your internet or mobile provider. Performance depends on your device and the length of your recording.
Your journal is stored on your device. There is no cloud account, cloud backup or automatic device transfer. Clearing app storage, uninstalling, losing your device or losing its encryption keys can permanently remove access to your journal. Keep separate copies of information you cannot afford to lose. We cannot restore local data we do not hold.
Availability and updates
We may update the app and website, correct defects or change supported devices and model versions. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, error-free output or indefinite availability of third-party model downloads. Any future paid features will be presented with their price and applicable purchase terms before you choose to buy them; these terms do not authorise a charge.
Responsibility and your legal rights
We will use reasonable care in providing the app and addressing reported problems. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we do not make additional promises that the app or its output will meet every particular purpose. You remain responsible for reviewing generated content and for your use of it.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including applicable mandatory consumer protections. These terms do not remove remedies available to you under the laws that apply to you. No mandatory arbitration or waiver of consumer rights is imposed by these terms.
Privacy, ending use and changes
The privacy policy explains local storage, optional support correspondence and the website's hosting. You can stop using Distil at any time. The “Delete your data” page explains how to remove its local data and request deletion of support messages.
We will publish updated terms at https://mydistil.com/terms/ with a new date. Material changes will be brought to your attention through the relevant app update or website notice. Changes do not retroactively take away accrued rights. Questions: mydistil.com@gmail.com.
